一、教学目的

The overall objectives of the course are to instruct the students to build a fundamental knowledge of reliably and economically operate an interconnected power system. Different than those basic courses like power system analysis, this course focuses on the technical issues to facilitate the security, reliability, economics and quality of power supply. The topic will include economic dispatch, unit commitment, power generation control, security analysis, system control, optimal power flow, security analysis, etc. in power system. The instruction will be inclined to discuss the fundamental theory, algorithm design and implementation in depth.

The contents of this course are designed to accomplish following objectives:

 Familiarize the major problems in power system operation and control

 Familiarize the major methods, theories and implementations in power system operation and control

 The training of fundamental theories in this area, to establish a basis for exploring the frontiers in this area.

 Enhance the understanding of power system dynamic process and its control

Contents and time plan:

 Introduction 2hrs

 Power System Economic Dispatch 6hrs

 Power System Unit Commitment 4hrs

 Power Generation Control and Frequency Regulation 6hrs

 Power System Wide-area Measurement and Control 4hrs

 Power System State Estimation 4hrs

 Power System Security 4hrs

 Optimal Power Flow in Power System 6hrs

 Experiments and lab tour 2hrs

 Assignments and project 2hrs

Total: 40hrs

三、教学方式

Term Paper & final project

Past courses focus on the characteristics of power components and systems. This course, upon analyzing the dynamic process of power system, explores how to dynamically control the power system, in an effort to maintain the energy balance at any time, hence keep the power system always in normal state.

Involves in the optimization and security in power system operation, i.e., technical approach to ensure the economic and reliable operation of power system, such as economic dispatch, unit commitment, power generation control, security analysis, system control, etc.

Grasp the basic methods and theories in implementing such approaches.

四、考核方式与成绩评定

Grading Policy:

 Homeworks (3-5 times), 15%

 Project, 20%

 Paper writing, 10%

 Attendance, 5-10%

 Final exam, 50% +/-
